An obituary note was published in the Le Monde newspaper, written by Florence Noiville. On January 21, Bernard Kouchner, the French Foreign Minister, paid tribute to him in a special communiqué.
In 1988, the Medem Library hosted Avrom Sutzkever on the occasion of the release of the French version of his book Où gîtent les étoiles (éditions du Seuil), published by Rachel Ertel. In the encounter with the poet, hosted by Rachel Ertel, took part Charles Dobzynski, a poet and translator, Simon Markish, the son of the Yiddish writer Peretz Markish, and Morkhe Litvine, translator of French poetry into Yiddish.
