Chagall and the Bible
Within the cycle of guided tours in Yiddish by Fanny Barbaray et Régine Nebel
At the heart of this exhibition is the phenomenal set of illustrations to the Hebrew Bible that Marc Chagall completed during a quarter of a century, between 1930 and 1956.
The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire du Judaïsme retells this long creative process, starting with the magnificent series of gouaches, through the different stages of engravings where the patterns take shape, until the 105 final engravings shown here for the first time. Paintings and drawings on paper reveal visual forms that the biblical text inspires the painter.
