A new workshop

Fun dor tsu dor (from generation to generation)
Workshop of family research

hosted by Françoise Milewski
author of the book "Un Livre du Souvenir : à la recherche d'une famille juive décimée en Pologne" (éd. La Découverte) (A book of Remembrance: in search of a Jewish family decimated in Poland)

One Thursday per month from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Next meetings: Jan. 28, Feb. 18 and March 25

No tombs and no traces - this was one of the objectives of the Final Solution. Families know, most of the time, very little about those who perished. The survivors had different extraordinary itineraries, made of chance, of presence of mind, of luck, of heroism, of help and of denunciation. The generation which lived through this history transmitted the knowledge the way it could, a singular way.
The children of these immigrants have to transmit a memory of events they did not live through: the life in the Polish communities before the war, where their parents lived, what happened to families during the war, the itinerary of the survivors after the war.
Preserving memory is also describing, as far as possible, the individual itineraries, bringing them to life.
The research of traces is possible by consulting documents in Polish, Israeli, German, American and French archives.

The workshop will start with the presentation of the research methodology. The second session will be a "round table" during which everyone will define his/her objectives and the extent of already available information.

Contribution (6 sessions until June): 90 €.
Paris Yiddish Centre members only.
