The pains of immigration seen through the character of a father who leaves his family in Poland to immigrate alone to the US.  On the eve of WWII this movie was poignantly received by the Jewish public in Poland, confronted to raising anti-Semitism.

Conference by Claude Singer
Historian, in charge of the educational sector at the Centre of Contemporary Jewish Documentation (Mémorial de la Shoah) Claude Singer teaches also since many years , at the Paris I University, the representations of Jewish characters in movies.

One of the last Yiddish movies produced in Poland before the Nazi invasion. A mother leaves her village in Russia to look for her son, who emigrated to the US and who did not give any news since then.

Uncle Moses

New York at the beginning of the years 1930. Jewish immigrants from Central Europe live in the Jewish parts of Manhattan and work at the sweat-shops. Uncle Moses is an owner of a sweat-shop, but he is not very happy. His marriage with Masha is a failure and the early Union movement is a source of worries.
