Berlin, the twenties, crossroad of Jewish identities
Cycle of 5 conferences in French by Irène Wekstein
In Berlin of the Weimar Republic, swinging between prosperity and crisis, developed a vibrating modernity, which changed the way of life and multiplied cultural events. The city attracted a number of immigrants, especially Jews from Eastern Europe, fleeing pogroms and anti-Semitism. A number of intellectuals, writers and artists converged there, attracted by the aura of modernity of the city, to the point that for a time Berlin was considered the center of Yiddish creativity. The literature of that period witnesses to the different ways taken by the construction of the modern Jewish identity.
